GOVERNMENT RAISES PANELS ON VISION 2020

PRESIDENT Umaru Musa Yar’Adua inaugurated the National Council and the National Steering Committee on Vision 2020, saying that the event marks the beginning of a new dawn in Nigeria’s development aspirations.
The development came as the Speaker of the House of Representatives warned that the on-going battle against corruption must be won for the vision to be achieved.
The Vision 2020 is aimed at making Nigeria one of the top 20 economies by the year 2020.

Yar'Adua Grants Amnesty to Niger Delta Militants

“We are working on the terms of amnesty for those (Niger Delta) militants who will lay down their arms,” President Umaru Yar’Adua disclosed, saying the package includes their integration into normal society. He made the announcement in Abuja when he listed the achievements of his seven-point agenda to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He said the amnesty would consolidate peace in the Deep South with the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the new rules of engagement fashioned out for the military Joint Task Force (JTF). INTERNATIONAL CANCER CENTRE, ABUJA

Following the initiative of Her Excellency, Mrs. Turai Yar’Adua, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to build an International Cancer Centre in Abuja (ICCA), Nigeria, that would meet international standard, the Consulate would wish to appeal to interested organized private funding institutions, and Nigerians in the health profession to help fund the project. The emphasis is on cancer research, palliative and treatment.

Accordingly, the Consulate would wish to welcome, in addition, to donation of funds through certified cheques to actualize the development of the Centre, in line with the functions and capacity-building of the initiative. Expectedly, collaboration between the Centre and funding institutions would enhance mutual benefits to be derived on areas of operational-skill and, capacity building.

NIGERIAN COMMUNICATION COMMISSION ROLLS OUT 2009 RULES FOR TELECOMMUNICATION OPERATORS

TO ensure effective services in the telecoms industry of the country this year, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has released fresh guidelines for operations.
Part of the new guidelines is the setting up of a public inquiry, which will seek to resolve such issues as the problems of interconnectivity of various networks operating in the country. (more…)
