Diaspora Giveback Program

The National Poverty
Eradication Programme (NAPEP) and the Nigerian National Volunteer
Service (NNVS) at the end-of-year Press Conference on NAPEP activities
for 2006, launched the NAPEP Diaspora Giveback Programme for the
Nigerian Diaspora. The Giveback programme essentially, commits NAPEP/NNVS
to match any fund donated or committed by any Diaspora individual, groups,
organizations or associations for community development at home. In other
words, any amount donated for development activities at the community level will
be matched by NAPEP.

The Giveback programme as designed is part of the
efforts to expand the fight against poverty through greater emphasis on
mobilizing resources for community development. In expanding the programme
to involve the Diaspora, the Federal Government seeks to expand on the growing
partnership with the Diaspora and the increasing Diaspora engagement with the
father land.

The NNVS is expected
to sensitize and mobilize Nigerians in the Diaspora, individuals, groups,
associations, organizations and corporate bodies to support the initiative which
will create and enhance pool of funds for acquiring necessary tools and
